Towage and Heavy Lift transport approvals

Bureau Vogtschmidt conducts around 400 wet and dry tow surveys a year to comply with the warranties of the Underwriters involved. Pursuant to the standards of Bureau Vogtschmidt any towage or transport approved by us will be continuously monitored from departure till arrival on her final destination.
Up till now Bureau Vogtschmidt carried out more than 6500 warranty surveys.

Towage approvals of tunnel elements
Bureau Vogtschmidt has gained wide experience in towage approvals of tunnel elements. Up till May 2008 we approved more than 35 tow transports of tunnel elements via inland water ways and over sea. Recently we approved 6 tunnel elements for the towage from Hanøytangen – West Side Norway to Oslo over sea (BJORVIKA TUNNEL). The previous tunnel transports we approved where the WIJKER TUNNEL in Amsterdam, CALAND TUNNEL in Rotterdam and the HSL TUNNEL.Beside the tunnel elements we approved a number of transports of concrete caissons over sea. One of them was the bridge pillar caissons of the famous Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam.
Wet and dry transports
Another speciality of Bureau Vogtschmidt is wet and dry transports of floating docks. We have approved more than 75 docks which arrived safely at her final destination.
Transport for various navies
Bureau Vogtschmidt approved a large number of transport for various navies worldwide. For the Dutch navy we approved several towages of frigates, mine sweepers and replenishment ships. For the Swedish, US Navy, Russian Navy, Indian Navy, Chinese Navy and French Navy we approved a large number of transports of submarines, patrol-vessels, destroyers and air craft carriers. The famous French aircraft carrier Clemenceau was one of them.
Supervisor during loading operations
In many occasions surveyors from Bureau Vogtschmidt are involved as surveyor or supervisor in transports of project cargo on heavy lift or general cargo vessels. Approval and recommendations are given for proper stowage and seafastening of the cargo for a safe journey to her final destination.

The Bureau Vogtschmidt engineers and naval architects use modern software programs to support the surveyors in their field work and to handle the complex demands of the maritime industry nowadays.

Bureau Vogtschmidt Engineering has produced many transportmanuals and feasibility studies for complicated tow and heavy lift voyages all over the world of fully loaded semi submergible barges, deck barges, semi submergible and heavy lift vessels and other special transports. A Transport manual consist of stowageplans, cribbingplans, cargo acceleration forces, stability calculations, seafastening design and calculations, leg bending moments etc..

Beside preparing the transportmanual we can provide surveyors for site attendance during the preparations, the load out and discharge operations.

Bureau Vogtschmidt b.v. was founded in April 1979 by Mr. Frits Vogtschmidt, a Master Mariner and Master of Science in Naval Architecture. The company operates from the head office in Alkmaar, The Netherlands, and from the Bureau Vogtschmidt branch offices established in Singapore, Cape Town and from the Netherlands Antilles.
